for a highly at areas of eastern new england. for us, we're on the southern tail of all this. still, we'll feel the effects with big wind. look at the advisories up for a significant amount of snow that's expected to fall in areas of eastern new england, around boston, massachusetts and connecticut and high winds as well so they've got the blizzard warning that's been posted areas of eastern massachusetts and connecticut. newark almost an inch. caldwell in new jersey, 3 inches of snowfall in yonkers just over 2 as well. in that pocket of boston and through areas of connecticut even, a blizzard warning where they could see a foot to upward of 2 feet of snow. here's what they're expecting up through here. again, the higher snowfall amounts, the bull's-eye right there had. we'll be on the tail end of it all. still again, it's wind for us and the storm system, again, ramping up. look at radar right now. there's the area of low pressure moving up the coast and that other little piece sweeping in to meet up with it. an area of low pressure that will really allow this system to intensify. on our radar

't giving up yet. i'm wolf blitzer. you're in "the situation room." cutting our pay. that's how one u.s. officer says u.s. troops view the recommendation for a smaller pay increase in 2014. no one goes into the military to get rich but most servicemen and women need every dollar in their paycheck. so worried that next paycheck may be smaller is not going over well among the troops. our pentagon correspondent barbara starr has the details. she's working the story. barbara, what's going on? >> wolf, in this town, there's nothing that causes more anxiety in budget politics than the concept of cutting the pay for the troops. but that is exactly what is on the table if congress and the president cannot reach an agreement on a spending plan. the troops usually are happy to see defense secretary leon panetta, smiles and handshakes all around. but days before he leaves office, panetta has bad news. he's proposing less money in their paycheck next year. panetta, a savvy washington operative in budget politics, is leaving it to congress to figure out how not to cut pay and keep thousands of defen

investors and ben white, chief economic correspondent at politico. also here with us is david joy. it's great to have all you guys here. phil, why has the rally stalled? >> well, we've gotten out of the gate in terrific shape here. the stock market, the s&p is up about 6% the first six weeks or so of the year. we've got a very constructive full year forecast of 1660 on the s&p, which would be a record high. but we didn't think we were going to go straight there. the reality is that we've had a terrific run. the markets are a little bit tired. you've got some washington-related news coming up over the next month or so. we would expect that this would be a perfect opportunity for, you know, a 3% to 5% pause. and i think we're starting to see that reflected -- >> up to 5% is almost the whole thing. >> well, look, a week from now, president obama is going to do his state of the union address, okay? typically the market doesn't respond well when the president talks. then we're going to start to get into some of the nitty-gritty, some of the spending issues. that would be a perfect opportun

in the next two weeks that will point us in the direction for the rest of the year. we'll get numbers on personal income, likely to be down. numbers on big ticket orders, refrigerators, mike waves, tv sets, computers, likely to be down. the service and manufacturing sectors, both expected to be down. consumer sentiment down. and then on the friday of next week, it may be that the unemployment rate goes up to 8% again. all of this because of the taxes that we're imposed on january the 1st, higher gas price, the spending cuts that now look likely, and the threat of even more and higher taxes still to come from the president. it is gas prices are a real problem here. martha: interesting. you're talking about the payroll tax that went up across the board and gas prices going up. it makes you sort of think back to when the president said you can't raise taxes during a recession, a difficult economic period. it didn't make sense. this time they decided they had to do it because they were pushed past the mark last time and didn't want to say they would do it again. >> martha, that was then,
